Productivity in manufacturing

Operational excellence in Indonesia

Our manufacturing plants are constantly seeking innovative new ways to improve production processes to grow our business. In Indonesia, Henkel has two adhesives plants. The plant in Pasuruan produces a wide range of industrial adhesives, including hotmelts and water-based adhesives for the local and international markets. The plant in Tangerang on the other hand, specializes in the production of footwear adhesives. Together, they continue driving innovation to simplify our processes.

The plant in Pasuruan is a model plant in the Asia-Pacific region for pressure sensitive adhesives. The team has introduced several areas of automation in its processes since 2015, to increase performance while still ensuring high standards of safety for employees.

In addition, it has widened its scope of adhesives provided. The team has enhanced the capability of the in-house adhesive sausages machine to also produce 250-gram units, a new size that was previously not offered. It is now also able to produce pillow pressure sensitive adhesives with a recent introduction of a new machine to the plant. Both initiatives will allow the pant to serve customers in Southeast Asia in a more timely and efficient manner.

The plant in Tangerang has also increased overall safety in its plant by implementing a state-of-the-art overfill protection system to its vessels, and newly protective barriers on each vessel in line with 5S and autonomous maintenance best practices. At the same time, the production and warehouse teams have also created a system that replicates the functions of a manufacturing execution system, to improve material flow. This has enabled them to gain greater control over processes, improve communication and productivity.
