On 16 September, Saturday, nearly 250 young students from SDN Dermo 1 in Pasuruan has learned simple ways to conserve the environment through the Sustainability Ambassador School Outreach program conducted by employees from Henkel Indonesia’s adhesives plant in Pasuruan.
Through interactive and fun lessons, the third, fourth and fifth graders of the primary school located in Bangil sub-district learned how to reduce energy, water and waste in the kitchen, bathroom and living room.
“We are very glad with Henkel Indonesia’s efforts to teach our children daily habits of using our earth’s precious resources responsibly and efficiently,” said Dwi Nugraheni, SPd., Principal of SDN Dermo 1. “We witnessed the children’s enthusiasm and eagerness to put into practice these lessons in their homes.”
“Henkel is committed to leadership in sustainability. In line with this, we engage our employees to strongly promote and contribute to various sustainability topics in schools, at our sites, with our customers, and in our local communities,” said Lucky Lee, President of Henkel Indonesia.
Students in Pasuruan are familiar with environmental issues since the coastal region has been struck regularly by floods that have forced many schools to close temporarily. Furthermore, raising students’ awareness of sustainability is effective as they serve as important influencers for promoting sustainable behaviors in their families.
Established since 1974, Henkel Indonesia operates a head office in Jakarta and two adhesive factories in Pasuruan and Tangerang. The Henkel Sustainability Ambassador School Outreach program was launched in Indonesia in 2014 and was previously conducted in SDN Pekoren 1 Pasuruan, British School Jakarta, and three elementary schools in Tangerang. Globally, Henkel has trained more than 25,000 ambassadors in 79 countries, and reached over 107,000 schoolchildren in 47 countries, including Indonesia.
